Restorative Neurostimulation ™ Reactiv8 Life

The multifidus stimulation procedure, also known as Reactiv8, is a minimally invasive treatment option for patients with back pain and multifidus atrophy. This treatment involves placing small electrodes into the muscles of the lower back, the multifidus muscle, which supports the spine. The electrodes deliver electrical impulses to these muscles, which can help to restore strength and function.
Patients with chronic back pain and multifidus atrophy may be good candidates for the Reactiv8 procedure. This treatment may be an option for patients who have tried other treatments without success, including medication, physical therapy, and surgery. Before undergoing this procedure, patients will undergo a thorough evaluation to determine if they are a good candidate for the treatment. A psychological screening is also required by insurance carriers. The Reactiv8 procedure may help patients improve their mobility and reduce pain, leading to a better quality of life.

Is Your Pain Mostly In Your Lower Back?

Mechanical chronic low back pain results from an injury or stress on the tissues surrounding the spine, including soft tissues, muscles, bones, and joints. Often times, this type of pain is due to impaired neuromuscular control and neural inhibition of the multifidus, which is the largest stabilizing muscle in your back.

How do I know my back pain is due to muscle dysfunction and not something else?

You could be suffering from multifidus muscle dysfunction if you experience pain while sitting or standing in the same position for extended periods of time, or during common everyday activities requiring bending such as brushing teeth, washing dishes, or reaching for items. Needing to use your arms to return to a standing position after bending is another common sign. Your doctor can assess the functionality of your multifidus muscle through a series of physical tests performed at an office visit in combination with an MRI to confirm the presence of fatty infiltration in the multifidus muscle. Testing for multifidus muscle dysfunction is 100% non-invasive.
